World production

Total production is about 2.6 million tonnes. Spain is the leading producer of olive oil and accounts for 44% of the world market, Italy 20% and Greece 13%. France is the smallest producer in the Mediterranean basin with 0.15% of the market. It produces 4,000 tons while its consumption is 90,000 tons. At the level of average consumption, it is Greece which leads with 20 KG / year and per inhabitants, Italy 12kg, and Spain 10 kg. In France we consume only 0.4 kg per year and per inhabitants.
